The avant-garde fashion collection exhibition “Russian cosmism” by Natalia Naftalieva as part of exposition “Space. Spoken language is Russian” held in Luxembourg

The exhibition of avant-garde fashion by Natalia Naftalieva entitled “Russian cosmism” held within the Days of European Culture 2007 as a part of exposition “Space. Spoken language is Russian” took place in Luxembourg from 12 till 18 of November. The exhibition was held under the patronage of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg with the personal support of the Mayor of Moscow City, The Ministry of foreign affairs, Roszarubezhcenter and charitable fund supporting Moscow’s creative youth “L&K”. The exhibition aroused great interest from the part of European mass media covering the event and from cultural circles of Europe.

Natalia Naftalieva as well as other artists and participants of exhibition presented their works of visual arts and artistic avant-garde of present-day Russia as part of Europe.

"In the beginning of the 20th century Russian painter Kazimir Malevich in his total abstraction from reality revealed the essence of cosmist pathos and laid the foundations for new visual language. Further realization of possibilities this language brings allowed young artists of the 21st century to reconsider the artistic form even in such traditional and anthropomorphically fixed form of art as fashion modeling. Therefore in her strikingly unique collection of avant-garde fashion Natalia Naftalieva shows the origins of Russian avant-garde. We see the "red-colored blob of hemoglobuline" in her work entitled "Capillary" as clearly as icon-setting and white snows in other works "The Universe" and "Russia".

Naftalieva created her first collections during the early years in college and demonstrated them on international festivals and contests. Then in 1989 Natalia opened her Fashion Theatre and in 1992 she organized the Fashion house. In 1993 Natalia obtained a registered trademark henceforth personifying constant creative search alongside with smooth-running operation of her Fashion house.

The traditional practical approach to form and content is inapplicable to the art of Natalia Naftalieva. Her series of collections entitled «The Weightlessness» shows her as an emotional artist able to perceive the internal processes of developing civilization. We see her refute to the static of earth's gravity expressed in lines, plasticity of forms and harmony with sound and movement.

Theatrical dependence of her images bears symbolic character and lets us visualize such primary notions as «womb», «virginity», «maternity» and others".

The Moscow city Mayor’s address to organizers, participants and visitors of exhibition "Space. A spoken language is Russian".

From behalf of Moscow City Govern¬ment and myself I personally support and encourage the project "Space. A spoken language is Russian" as a unique and perfectly realized opportunity to tell the European and the world community of such a nationally, humanistically, philosophically and culturally enriched Russian notion as Cosmos.

This project is an unprecedented and daring creative act of great resounding and there is no doubt that it will draw the closest attention of intellectual and artistic circles and give pabulum for reflection to futurologists and probably politicians..

The exhibition is to hold a significant place in the Days of European Culture 2007.

In my address to foreign guests and visitors to the exhibition "Space. A spoken language is Russian" I count upon understanding the measure, depth and humanistic quality of processes that are now widely occurring in Russia and exert great influence on the whole world. We, the people of Moscow and Russia, are the heirs and successors to the great deed commenced with the launch of the first space satellite - our Sputnik, proceeded with the Gagarin's "Let's go!", placing the first Space station into orbit and the first man in outer space.

Russian Cosmos is an image, a philosophical notion, a practice and we are glad to share it with our friends in the whole world - our common motherland Earth.
